The New South Wales liquor and gaming authority has granted extended trading hours for eligible venues during the weekend of the Mundi Mundi Bash this coming August.
The extension, which will allow licensed venues in Broken Hill to operate until 1am, is part of a broader initiative by Liquor & Gaming NSW to support major events across the state.
While the extension will undoubtedly be welcomed by some smaller venues, others may not take advantage of the extra hour.
“Midnight will probably still be the latest for us,” said Amanda Hillard, marketing manager at the Broken Hill Pub.
“The Mundi Mundi Bash is really big for us, and we get late night traffic too, but lunchtime is really big for us at that time.
“People want to come in during the day for a meal or a drink, or to bring their dog, because we’re a dog friendly venue.”
A more unusual extension may have come Broken Hill’s way this weekend, with the LGA allowing all licensed venues in the state to remain open until 5am provided a live broadcast of the Wimbledon Finals be shown on the premises during the extended trading period, but “only if an Australian is playing”.
