FOLLOWING the collapse of Australian fashion retailer Mosaic, Broken Hill’s Millers and Autograph stores are shutting down – leaving a sizeable gap in an already limited clothing market.
The shutdowns are nationwide and not just limited to Millers and Autograph but include all the company’s labels – following Mosaic’s collapse in October 2024.
In 2024 it was announced Autograph stores will be closing, and in the past week the company revealed all the Millers stores will be closing too.
For Broken Hill, the loss of both clothes shops is another hit to a town with minimal women’s clothing stores.
Autograph closed on Saturday, February 8, and Millers is set to shut on Saturday, March 8.
Broken Hill City councillor Darriea Turley AM said she visited Autograph staff on Wednesday, February 5, to say thank you for their service to the community..
She added the loss of both stores will be felt by the community, especially since Millers was affordable fashion.
“If you look at the retail and clothing industry for women in Broken Hill, to me there’s a huge hole there,” she said.
“It’s now very limited what we’ll be able to purchase, and then if you start practising purchasing online, you’re taking away from supporting local business.”
Cr Turley also said the loss of Autograph and Millers is extra disappointing as both carried a varied and inclusive set of sizes.
“It’s hard accessing those sizes anywhere else in town,” she said.
