Broken Hill Indoor Bowls Association

THE grand final of the winter competition was run last Tuesday night (July 29) between Sturt Rebels and Demo.

Demo still only had three players as one player was recovering from an operation. So we played a triples final with both teams playing with three members and two bowls each.

Demo won the first end and scored a three shot. Sturt bounced back with a two shot and it looked like being a real close game all through. On the third end Demo scored another three shots, but Sturt hit back with a two shot and scores were 6 to 4.

After the 10th end, Demo had all the answers as Sturt tried very hard to bridge the gap and on the 11th end scores were 15 to 6.

To Sturt’s credit, they scored the next three ends to be only five down but could not bridge the gap and Demo won 17 to 10.

A brilliant game by Rob Butler and Bill Gebhardt and leader Bob Smith who win the winter comp. Congratulations.

For Sturt, Milty Jnr battled his butt off and did have the shots but could not convert them. Adrian Barron and Milton Snr battled all night. But runner-up in the winter comp.

Next Tuesday night we will start the Broken Hill Singles championships. With nominations up to seven we need one more player to come in so we will run a round robin, with two games per night for the next few week.

If there is a registered male who would like to play, please ring secretary Milton Hawke on 0418 858 388.
