North Broken Hill Bowling Club

EIGHTEEN participants attended a Tuesday evening of bowls on February 4, which allowed three games of triples to be played the carpet green.

The winning team was lead John Payne, second A Stewart and their skip Stephen Balman.

Last Saturday was a very warm 34 degrees which attracted 22 social bowlers. There were two undefeated teams which were skippered by Peter Merritt and Ryan Atkinson.

The number 82 on the wheel was spot on for Ryan’s side, which featured lead Kristian Sartori and second Ray Grenfell. There were plenty of resting touchers with Stephen Balman, Peter Merritt, Kristian Sartori, Nathan Gageler and Barry Hooker all sharing the limelight. Charlie Sultana had a momentary lapse in concentration when he delivered one wrong bias bowl.

On Tuesday, 16 participants formed eight teams of pairs with three teams emerging unbeaten, under the control of Ken Hodge, Barry Hooker and Bob Sultana.

The wheel spin result (97) suited Bob’s side perfectly. Game on saw Bob have June Walker as his lead, while in game two Bill Symons helped Bob out. The very consistent Barry Hooker scored another resting toucher.

Broken Hill Men’s Indoor Bowls Association

DEMO were hosting Sturt in a very tense game in round three of the summer competition and Demo were without its skip Rob Butler due to work commitments.

Sturt were leading pretty much throughout the game, with Sturt leader Adrian Barron and Paul Thys, holding each other at bay.

The next two bowlers, Bob Smith and old Hawkeye, had some interesting ends and Hawkeye hit the kitty twice sending it off the mat.

Bill Gebhardt and M Junior had a good tussle but in the end Sturt ran out winners 25-7.

The other game between Muso Flags and Try Hards was a one-way street with Flags dominating the game.

A knock off from Aaron Hawke gave them four penalties but then they scored one shot and then another four shots to make the score look a bit more respectable at 16-13, but TryHards dropped seven shots in the last two ends to finish 23-13.

Round 4 is on Tuesday at the Musicians Club with the mat down at 7pm.
