North Broken Hill Bowling Club Report

Nineteen social bowlers played two games in the 32 degrees conditions. The winning team was lead Ken Murray, second Brian Jones and skip Tom Sladden. Brian Pascoe was in outstanding form with two resting touchers while Tony Brown scored one.

Slightly warmer weather saw 16 participants. The winning team featured lead Jenny Garnaut, second Bob Sultana and skip Peter Balman. Ray Grenfell was right on target with two resting touchers. Tony Brown again scored one with Jenny Garnaut also finishing snug on the kitty.

With Xmas holidays and festivities dominating people’s lives, a dozen social bowlers fronted. Barry Hooker’s trio, consisting of lead Kris Hunter and second Brian Jones won the afternoon. Jenny Garnaut again managed one resting toucher, as did Ken Hodge.

Cooler 29 degrees conditions attracted a very good 28 players. Steve Balman’s team, which included lead Kristian Sartori and second Peter Simons emerged victorious. The consolation spin went to lead Jenny Garnaut, second Don Delbridge and their skip Barry Hooker. Brian Jones and Peter Simons both attained resting touchers, while Brian Fenton lost concentration twice in bowling wrong bias deliveries.

With the weather warming up again and our club’s shelter shade temporarily out of action, nineteen social bowlers played on our carpet green. Barry Hooker, for the second time in eight days, skippered the successful team, which comprised lead Kristan Sartori and second Brian Jones. Jenny Garnaut, for the third time in eleven days, scored another resting toucher.

Calm, very warm conditions saw 26 social bowlers play three games of triples and two lots of pairs. There were four undefeated teams, under the control of skips Bruce Nettle, Tom Sladden, Ken Hodge and Barry Hooker. A very high number on the wheel was excellent news for Ken’s duo, which featured lead Zac Weekes. The Garnaut family, consisting of Lou, Jenny and their son Matthew won the consolation spin. Zac Weekes, Bob Sultana and Lou Garnaut scored resting touchers, while Denis Watts and Ivan Read suffered confusion, which resulted in one wrong bias delivery each.

Wednesday evening barefoot bowls: With our greenkeeping staff coring our club’s grass green, it will be approximately a fortnight before this pleasant social activity resumes.

Region 4 trials at Waikerie: North BHBC’s Ryan Atkinson earned selection in this season’s SA Country Regional Championship tournament, as did Zinc BHBC’s Brad Lane, Peter and Nathan Gageler. Congratulations to all four Silver City bowlers.Upcoming major event:

Australian Day weekend fours: Play will commence on Saturday, January 25 at 1.30pm, followed by two games on Sunday, January 26. This tournament is an open gender event with the cost $100 per team. Prize money will be $400 for first, $320 for second and $280 for third. All unplaced sides will participate in a random draw for $200. The dress for both days will be creams. Nominations close on January 18, 2025.
