Theatre 44’s AGM to take centre stage

LOCAL theatre group, Theatre 44, is holding its annual general meeting on Sunday, February 23, welcoming the community to attend and see what the group as to offer.

The meeting aims to show the community what the group has planned for 2025, and attract new team members.

It’s not just actors that are needed, but volunteers who are eager to help and gain experience in working backstage, painting and constructing sets, costume making, lighting and sound operations and various front of house roles.

The group is also seeking a treasurer and/or someone with bookkeeping experience.

Theatre 44 secretary Marilyn Harris said everybody is welcome at the event, particularly those interested in joining the group to direct, act or be a treasurer.

“There’s always a call for more actors, directors, backstage people and those who can train us in lighting and sound people,” she said.

“Always something to do at the theatre.”

Ms Harris said at the AGM a report of the past year will be presented, alongside a financial report and election of officers for 2025.

For those wanting to be involved, Ms Harris said the time commitment for new volunteers varies on their interests.

“There is a commitment to a monthly meeting, usually on the last Sunday of a month, apart from that depends on where you want to work, for example if you’re working in wardrobe or just collecting money at the door,” she said.

“Commit as much time as you want to.”

The theatre has a range of projects on the horizon, including a play festival, musical and multiple concerts.

“There are also other plays happening during the year,” she said.

“We’ve got a setup of plays that we want to have, but they do change from time to time.

“We also have a pantomime at the end of the year hopefully.”

The AGM is Sunday, February 23, from 4pm, at 189 Wills Street, Broken Hill.

If interested to know more about attending the AGM or Theatre 44 generally, call Ms Harris on 8087 9585 / 0413 905 04 for more details.
