Search on after alleged kidnap attempt

OFFICERS from New South Wales Police Barrier District are searching for a man who allegedly approached a child and attempted to entice the young boy into his vehicle on Monday, February 24.

Police said inquiries continue following the reports of an alleged child approach at a carpark in Broken Hill.

“Police were told a 12-year-old boy was approached by a man not known to him at a carpark on Galena Street, Broken Hill,” the spokesperson for NSW Police said.

The boy’s aunt posted a warning on Facebook to other parents on Monday, around 2pm, after the incident took place.

The local Broken Hill woman’s post said her nephew was walking through the carpark of the popular Westside Plaza on Monday when he was approached by a white two door ute, driven by

a man.

According to the post, the man allegedly said the boy’s parents had “told him to come and pick you up and take you to them.”

The boy escaped and suffered no injuries, however was said by family members to be shaken up by the incident.

Police were called shortly after the boy returned home, with a full investigation underway, including statements being taken and closed circuit television footage from the plaza being obtained.
