Bail extended for alleged rapist

A MAN charged with five counts of alleged rape and one count of aggravated sexual assault, inflicting actual bodily harm, has been granted another month of bail as outstanding documents from January hold up the court process.

Glenn Phillips’ committal was again adjourned by Magistrate Jaqueline Trad at the Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday, February 25.

Prosecutor Gavin Begg said that outstanding items were still needed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), causing the adjournment.

Mr Begg said the items were medical and telephone records relating to the case, which require a substantial amount of transcribing.

Magistrate Trad questioned if the ODPP had received any material at all, with the representative in court confirming it had not.

The Magistrate said these items need to be followed up considering they had been outstanding since January.

Mr Phillips committal hearing is adjourned for one month and scheduled for Tuesday, March 25.

He is excused from attending the hearing if legally represented, and his bail will continue.
