Tender submissions for long term grazing open

LOCAL Land Services New South Wales have opened tender submissions for long term grazing permits, with the last day to submit Sunday, March 30.

Livestock producers across the state are invited to apply for access to select Travelling Stock Reserves on Crown Land.

There are multiple TRS near Broken Hill and in the Western NSW region, and permits last for five years beginning from July 2025.

TRS program lead Sam Hand said permits are highly prized.

“TSR are widely valued for biodiversity conservation, Indigenous culture and recreation, as well as their traditional use for travelling stock and grazing,” he said.

“Long term grazing permits allow producers to make long-term business decisions and access TSR for extra fodder to support healthy livestock, particularly during times of drought, feed shortages and other emergencies.

“Successful tenderers are expected to contribute to positive land management practices on the TSR, such as controlling pests and weeds and protecting biodiversity.”

Mr Hand also said that strategic shared grazing ensures the areas are well-maintained.

“While select, carefully assessed TSR are eligible for long term grazing permits, all are available by application for short-term access and reserve use permits,” he said.

Applicants are required to inspect the site they are seeing access to before making a submission to ensure it is fit for their intended grazing use.

All submissions are lodged online.
