PERFECT Light Film Festival’s ninth event took place over the weekend, this year hosted in the Civic Centre rather than in Sturt Park as in previous years.
About 300 people gathered to watch the films on the big screen, with local emerging filmmaker Max Burrows taking out the Best Emerging Filmmaker Award for their film Ghost’d.
“I’m glad local filmmakers are being represented and given the opportunity to platform their work,” Burrows said.
First place winner was Kenny Foo’s The GOAT, with Loophole by Chris Sun taking second place and Jasmin Watkins with Aced It! Claiming third.
Jim Southwell’s film Superglue won the Beyond Blue Mental Health Award.
Local filmmaker and animator Jarrod Prince said showing his animation Olive Place to a local audience as part of the festival was a humbling experience.
“Having Olive Place screen with other amazing and talented film makers was humbling and a real privilege,” he said.
“It was great to watch my film on the big screen in the town I grew up in!”
Festival director Steve Bastoni said though hosting the event at the Civic Centre was different to previous years, he was pleased with the overall outcome.
“The films played really well,” he said. “Crowd engagement and support and enthusiasm was fantastic!”
Bastoni said he and the team are already beginning to plan next year’s festival, which will be their 10th.
“We’ll be brainstorming that over the next few months, and we’ll come up with something fun and unexpected!”
