THE Y’s Men Club Broken Hill, with help from one of Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program grant funding, have bought three new mobility scooters for the community.
Transgrid’s CPP funding project is accessible for communities throughout New South Wales where the company operates and offers grants for not-for-profit organisations.
Broken Hill Y’s Men’s Club is lead by President Geoff Webb and he says he appreciated the support.
“We’re very thankful to Transgrid for giving us the grant of $10,000,” he said.
“What we did with the money didn’t quite make three mobility scooters, so we’ve paid the rest for the extra scooter.
“We also have another second hand scooter which we’ve had serviced, which we’re also handing out at the same time.
“So that’s four scooters in total that we’re sending out and four people have received these.”
Transgrid’s senior engagement manager James Tydd works with community groups like the Men’s Club, which he calls the lifeblood of regional communities.
“This is a community grants program that we roll-out throughout New South Wales and it’s just a way of supporting some of the fantastic community organisations which really are the lifeblood of the community in regional areas in particular,” he said.
“Following the outage that occurred in October, we decided to roll out our community partnerships program in this part of New South Wales in the far west of Broken Hill just to support some of the fantastic community organisations out there.
“For this round we received around probably about 30 or 40 grants.”
Mr Tydd said that the grant recipients have been appreciative of the support, with many in need of funding.
“They’ve been extremely appreciative of the support that we can provide to them,” he said.
“I know that some of these community organisations, charities and not-for-profits, they’re always seeking support and funding to support their initiatives.
“So they’ve been very appreciative and we’ve been overwhelmed with the feedback and the interest that Broken Hill in the Far West of NSW have shown and we’re happy to support them.
“It’s a very resilient, amazing community and we’re just very happy to be able to support some of these fantastic local not-for-profit organisations.
“We are proud to be supporting the Y’s Men Club at Broken Hill to help them secure full funding for the purpose of purchasing new mobility scooters.”
