Get set for disability workshop

A DISABILITY networking event will be held on September 9 and 10 with free interactive workshops.

The Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) have joined forces with Disability Advocacy and Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS) to bring locals two engaging days of free events for people with disabilities, their parents and informal carers, as well as for disability service providers.

PDCN is the peak body representing, empowering and lobbying for the physical disability community in NSW and beyond.

“We are committed to travelling across NSW and to collaborate with organisations on the ground in regional and remote areas to better engage with, empower and represent the physical disability community in each place,” PDCN chief executive officer Ed Morris said.

“Your voice does and will make a difference.”

Workshops will include learning how to speak up for yourself, understand how these disability organisations’ services can empower you, how to strengthen your chances to find and keep an inclusive, accessible job, and self-care for parents and carers of children with disabilities.

There will be shorter info-sessions on the rights as a person with disabilities and understanding education support for kids with disabilities.

People with disabilities will also be able to enjoy “meet and mingle” lunches, dinner, morning and afternoon teas, and share experiences of living with disability in your community during the community consultation sessions.

The voices heard from the disability community and service providers shared during the networking and consultation sessions will raise important matters.

This will enable the PDCN to discuss with local, state and federal government and will directly influence the issues PDCN represents in their systemic advocacy work.
