Interstate team beats Shinglebacks

THE South Australian football representative team took an almost 30-point lead over the Lizards last weekend.

A first in four years, the SA representatives won 62 – 33 by the Shinglebacks team.

The Shinglebacks (or Lizards) are made up of players over 35 years of age for a ‘fun football’ game against the SA Masters.

With coach Mick Vlatko organising the team, he said they were able to fill the 22-player side pretty easily.

“Any players that couldn’t play, we were able to fill those positions,” he said.

Vlatko said he was happy with how the team performed on the weekend.

“We had a lot of possession of the ball but just couldn’t convert,” he said.

Despite some young blood injected into the team with Anthony Tidball, Ben McInerney, Jarvis Morris, Daniel Milne, Sheldon Hall and Jacob Vlatko, the team still couldn’t put on a win.

Stalwarts of the Lizards, Chris Jones, Dean ‘Fireball’ Ryan, Leigh Sultana and Hamish Wood put on a good performance, but the Masters proved too strong.

Vlatko said the weather did no favours with strong winds making it impossible to hit targets.

“It probably kept the crowds away as well,” he said.
