ABOUT 1200 supporters gathered in the stands at the Broken Hill Speedway on Saturday night to watch riders from across the country compete in the New South Wales Sidecar Championship.
Two local Broken Hill teams made the seniors final, with Rick Stephens and Nick O’Brien finishing second and Max Howse and Riley Commons taking home third place in the big race.
Broken Hill Speedway Club secretary Ali Howse said the organisation had been overwhelmed by positive feedback on the event.
“We had great feedback on the night, and we’ve had overwhelming feedback from the community since the event too,” she said.
One injury was sustained on a rider in a sidecar during the Classic Sidecar race, featuring vintage motorcycles and sidecars. The rider came out of the sidecar and onto the track, fracturing his rib.
Ms Howse said the competitor has recovered and is well.
Other than that, the night went off without a hitch and Ms Howse said the club is now looking forward to the upcoming motocross season, which kicks off in May.
