Free info sessions on incontinence

TWO free sessions led by registered nurses will be held in Broken Hill in January aiming to educate seniors on and break stigma of incontinence.

The Continence with Confidence information sessions are open to anyone aged older than 65, or 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, and are run by aged care provider LiveBetter.

Set for the Broken Hill Seniors Lounge in North Mine Hall in Queen Elizabeth Park on Lane Street, the sessions will run on Tuesday 14 January and Wednesday 15 January from 10am to 12pm.

Nurses will seek help those attending discuss their concerns and questions, aiming to foster a safe and light-hearted environment.

LiveBetter CEO Natalie Forsyth-Stock said 70 per cent of people with incontinence do not seek out help.

“That’s a concerning figure and it doesn’t need to be that way,” she said.

“Help is available and LiveBetter wants to empower older Australians to feel confident to take control of their incontinence to ensure their dignity, independence and wellbeing is maintained as they get older.”

LiveBetter general manager of in home support and clinical services Helen Miller said the team is keen to provide advice to the seniors of Broken Hill.

“We look forward to providing information and advice on everything from the prevention and management of incontinence through to caring for someone with incontinence,” she said.

Morning tea will be provided at the event and to RSVP call LiveBetter on 1800 580 580 and quote your My Aged Care number.
