DUST off your cowboy boots and get ready to sing along: The Coal Miner’s Daughter is set to be performed in Broken Hill for the first time.
The show, inspired by the film of the same name and based on Loretta Lynn’s autobiography, stars Amber Joy Poulton, a Loretta Lynn look alike and multi award-winning songstress.
The performance is a stage musical that celebrates the life and music of country legend Loretta Lynn.
“We bring to life Loretta Lynn’s story through her own songs from her early beginnings in the hills of Kentucky, right through to her incredible career as one of the best country singers of all time,” Poulton said.
“We also touch on her beautiful friendship with the iconic Patsy Cline, as well as her singing partner and friend Conway Twitty with my amazing band The Holy Men.”
Poulton also spoke about her admiration for Loretta Lynn, and how that drives her performance.
“Loretta paved the way, all those years ago, for women like me to have a place on the main stage,” she said.
“She showed us, in the most difficult of times that women can have it all; we can have the home life, the kids, the husband, the friendships and the career but she also made it very clear we’d have to fight for it and we’d likely be exhausted at the end.”
Poulton said she is excited to be performing in Broken Hill.
“We have been asked several times when we are coming to Broken Hill and it’s so nice to finally deliver on that promise and if ticket sales are anything to go by, we are in for a great show,” she said.
“There are only a handful of seats left and at a time when selling tickets to shows is still so difficult, we feel so grateful to Broken Hill for embracing our beautiful show.”
