Roos hold top of the table

Dale Tonkin

WELL, it’s safe to say I got the week’s round incorrect; apologies to the readers out there.

But let’s put our focus on the round four wrap-up.

West v South

Once again the Robins pulled up way short.

The Roos had their measure all day: Roos 109 Robins 63 is a decent flogging.

But it just wasn’t on the scoreboard, the Westies copped a hiding.

It was all around the ground. Stoppages, ground balls, scores from turn, etc.

South are an organised team so if you don’t come in with a plan to unsettle them, then expect a similar scoreline.

This season is shaping up nicely to be one of the most competitive years we’ve had in a long time.

I do scratch my head as to why we have a final four when the clubs are fighting each and every week for the four points and trying to climb the ladder.

As it sits, South on three wins; Central three wins; North two wins; West zero wins.

West went to a lot of trouble at the beginning of the year to put a plan in place and they just don’t follow through with it.

Chris Jones and his team are doing everything they can to make this side competitive.

I can see what they’re trying to achieve but they really don’t have the cattle; not yet anyway until their juniors grow and develop and a bit of recruiting then they may be OK in the future.

But for now it looks grim.

Just keep developing the kids, Robins, you will get there.

Southies are a fully functioning hardened team who don’t give away too much easy ball; they keep their ship rather tight and they will go deep into the season.

Good luck everyone for the rest of the year.

The competition looks quite healthy; all the hard work each club is putting in has made the competition even and exciting.

Central v North

We must acknowledge the Maggies’ endeavour here to walk away 17-point victors against North 9-10 = 64 to the Dogs 6-11= 47.

This is no easy feat, but the Maggies continued to apply pressure and get the result they desired which pushes them equal top of the ladder with the Roos.

North lost their veteran star with a hamstring injury early in the third quarter which didn’t help matters.

Central were just too good; their contested ball is a highlight to watch and their ability to win the ground ball is a huge reason why they can put sides away.

I take my hat off to the Maggies. They’ve just got to keep it going now and the Dogs need to regroup and just find a way to get it done.
