THE Waste 2 Art 2025 exhibition will open at the Broken Hill Tip Shop on Monday (June 2) and at The GeoCentre on Tuesday (June 3).
This year’s theme is toys, raising awareness for the growing amount of waste toys create. More than 70 creatives have registered artworks for the exhibition, creating artworks or functional objects on the theme.
Secretary of the Broken Hill Art Exchange, Nadina Benvenisti, said many budding young artists had entered the competition this year and the skill level of the works to be exhibited was of a very high standard.
“This is becoming one of the highlights in the cultural calendar and each year and we’re amazed by the stunning artworks and different interpretations of the theme,” she said.
“What’s great about this program is the competition has categories for all, ranging from pre-school through to professional artists and it’s a great way to bring awareness to the rising challenge we face with waste.
“Not only does it brighten up our city, but it also raises funds for the Art Exchange and Lifeline local programs.
“The showcase also promotes Broken Hill as the centre of regional New South Wales arts, with the winning entries sent to exhibit and compete in the regional final in Dubbo this year.
“Over the past two years, out artists have taken out many of the regional prizes.”
All are welcome to visit the exhibitions and vote for the people’s choice award, with prizes announced at a public event between 11am-12pm on at the GeoCentre on June 14.
The program is run in Broken Hill by the Broken Hill Art Exchange and Lifeline, and funded by the Broken Hill City Council Community Assistance Grants with support from many local businesses.
