The West openers weathered the storm from opening bowlers Johns and Lily McCure and were looking set at the crease before Alice Edmondson caught Phoebe Knell plumb in front, LBW.
Paige Cuy then nicked one that was well caught by Kristala Alexandrou, who is proving very handy with the gloves.
Brooke Jordan then stepped up to bowl and got Kendra Bugmy to sky one, caught by Heidi Drenkhahn at cover. A great first wicket for Jordan.
A brilliant piece of fielding by Hannah Maalste created a run-out in the final over and West finished 4/147.
With a few key players unavailable, coach Mick Webeck decided to give Jordan the chance to open the batting with Abbey Johns.
She stood up to the challenge, seeing out the opening overs and making use of quick singles and well run twos with Johns to guide her.
She then fell to the pace of Bugmy, and Drenkhahn was out the very next ball.
Up stepped McCure, who smartly saw off the hat-trick ball and began to settle in with Johns.
The two were immovable forces, with Johns playing the anchor role continually turning over the strike and McCure playing the explosive role, knocking out fours and hitting deep into the outfield to allow for easy twos.
Johns and McCure put on a 100-plus run partnership with McCure scoring a maiden half-century.
However, the slow start to the innings was too much to recover from and at the end of 20 overs, South were 16 runs shy of the total.
