Zinc continue form surge

Zinc BHBC can do no wrong as they continued their recent run of success, when for the third week in a row, they won two of the three matches against North BHBC.

Nathan Gageler’s team scored a thumping 29-7 victory, while Brad Lane’s quartet led throughout to win 24-13.

Ryan Atkinson’s North BHBC side prevented a clean sweep when they prevailed 22-13.

Zinc won the colour 66 shots to North’s 44. They also scored 10 competition points to their opponent’s two.Progressive tallies with one round to go: competition points North 84 Zinc 72; total shots North 788 Zinc 738.

Afternoon prizewinners: there were nine North social bowlers as well as the 24 pennant players.

Three teams were eligible for the afternoon’s major prize – Nathan Gageler and Brad Lane’s Zinc pennant teams and Steve Cutting’s North social bowls duo.

The No.5 on the wheel was excellent news for Brad Lane’s side, which included lead Kris Hunter, second Noel Lane and third Peter Gageler. The consolation spin also saw the same number, which suited Peter Balman’s trio, featuring lead Amelia Butler and second Allan Fraser. Peter Balman attained the only resting toucher, while Barry Hooker bowled a wrong bias delivery.

Club Championships 2024-25 season:

Men’s singles: It was semi-finals’ morning last Sunday, with Ryan Atkinson playing Wayne Williams in the early match. This was a rather bizarre contest, with Wayne scoring seven shots over the first three ends, before Ryan commenced an extended period of dominance that was so complete, that Wayne only added one more shot before Ryan won 21-8.

Barry Hooker played Stephen Balman in the later contest. Barry led for the entire journey, though Stephen fought back several times, at 7-6, 10-9, before eventually Barry won 21-13. There was one exceptional moment when Barry, with his final bowl, trailed the kitty neatly to potentially score four shots, before Stephen’s final delivery likewise deftly trailed the kitty to score one shot.

Wednesday evening barefoot bowls, November 20:

Barefoot bowls started with 10 participants, who enjoyed a calm, serene evening.

The winning unbeaten side comprised lead June Walker, second Trevor Walsh and their skip Ryan Atkinson.

Our club organisers are hoping to build on these numbers. The North BHBC is located behind the railway line at the southern end of Iodide Street – please turn left after safely crossing the rail tracks.

Names are to be in by 6pm, with play starting at 6.30pm. There will be two games – either eight ends of triples or 10 ends of pairs. Match fees are $5. While everyone is welcome, this evening’s bowls is aimed at beginners/learners who would like a pleasant experience under lights on our upper grass green.

Tuesday, November 26:

Despite a fair dose of humidity, the 22 social bowlers enjoyed the pleasant conditions afforded by our shelter shade.

There were three unbeaten teams, under the leadership of Steve Cutting, Lloyd Rawlins and Barry Hooker.

The number 55 on the wheel was spot on for Lloyd’s team, which comprised lead Kris Hunter.

There were six resting touchers for the afternoon, with the ever reliable Ken Murray (2), Don Delbridge, K. Hodge, Peter Gageler and Lloyd Rawlins, all finishing on target. Peter Balman and Brian Fenton mixed their plans and actual methods up for one wrong bias delivery each.

The North BHBC teams for the final pennant’ round are:

Judy Calleia, Steph Balman, Lou Garnaut, Ryan Atkinson (skip)
