New citizens welcomed

THREE new citizens have been officially welcomed to the country, and Broken Hill region, following the Australia Day Ceremony on Sunday, January 26.

The Citizenship Ceremony was led by Mayor Tom Kennedy, who started the Australian Citizenship Pledge for the conferees to repeat, officially marking them as citizens.

The new citizens included Ferderika Radja-Hermansson, Carolyn Dilag Salaver and Noah Dilag Salaver.

The new citizens, after completing their pledge, were given certificates and flowers by Cr Kennedy and gift bag from Councillor Bob Algate.

Carolyn Dilag Salaver, who works in aged care, has built her life in Broken Hill after moving here from the Philippines.

Ms Dilag Salaver’s son, Noah, also became a citizen on Sunday.

“My husband moved here first and sponsored me, and then we built our family here,” she said.

“We have two kids now.

“We like the people here, we’re so grateful.

“We’re honored and grateful to become an Australian, people here are very nice.”

Councillor Michael Boland said the new citizens were noticeably excited.

“It was great to see the new citizens, they were very excited,” he said.
