Demo go two up in early rounds

ROUND two games in the Broken Hill Men’s Indoor Bowls Association comp were held on Tuesday, February 4 at the Sturt Club with good results and close games and good bowls had by all.

Top two teams Demo and Flags had a very interesting game as Flags were without their skipper Aaron Hawke and a sub was called in and after nine ends held a one shot lead 11 to 10.

Demo got their act together and scored a knock off (four penalty shots) and then scored a three-shot on the following end to be six up after the 11th.

Flags did score a one shot on the 12th end, but Demo held their nerve and went on to win and a clean sheet for the start of the summer comp with a 21 to 13 end result.

Demo were well served by Paul Thys, Bob Smith was brilliant, Bill Gebhardt, and well skippered by Rob Butler.

For the Flags, Ray Grenfell and sub Tyson Hawke had very good games, and Peter Merritt and Tyrone English play very well .

The next game was between the first-round losers, Sturt and the Try Hards.

With 3 players each and Rod White back from Adelaide after surgery, Sturt jumped out in front five to nil but Try Hards came back to level five all after the 5th end.

Sturt scored a two-shot on the 6th end but Try Hards scored a three on the 7th and the game was level on five times and came down to the last couple of ends.

Sturt had two very good 15th and 16th ends where they scored two by three shots to put the game to bed.

Adrian Barron led well for Sturt and Rod White played very well under the watch of his wife, and Paul Dettorre and Milton Hawke Snr using a Hacksaw bowling aid, both players held their own, but it came down to the two skippers Justin Nankivell who both had some good shots.

Sturt grabbed their chances and took the win 19 to 14.

From now on Men’s and Mixed indoor bowls will be having social play on Sunday nights at the Muso Club starting 7pm.

Organisers are trying to boost player numbers and would like to see families and former participants who want to tone their game under a accredited coach.

Come down we will have mats down and join in and for more information contact Milton Hawke on 0418 858 388.
