Broken Hill Men’s Indoor Bowls

THE grand final of our Summer Competition was held last Tuesday night, April 15 between Minor premiers Muso Flags and the Demo.

Well, this game had two stories with the Flags racing to a game winning advantage 15 to 2.

Then not sure if a bit of cocky came into the Game and Flags were home, but still had eight ends to play out, or Demo just lifted off the floor and played top bowls, to record 15 shots to nil to start the last end 17 all.

The Flags ran out of steam, and the Demo were riding high.

It came from the last bowl from young skipper Aaron Hawke who was down on the last end, came up with a brilliant bowl to take the shot bowl out and lay two shots as bob Butler just missed with his last bowl of the night to give Aaron the game.

Brilliant would be a better word to say from the eight players and a great game played.

Congratulation to Ray Grenfell, Peter Merritt, Tyrone English, and skip Aaron Hawke.

But can’t say enough for the runner ups the Demo led by Paul Thys, Bob Smith, Bill Gebhardt and skippered brilliantly by Rob Butler.

Muso Flags defeated Demo 19 to 17. Muso won nine ends and Demo seven.

Next Tuesday night April 22 is the Men’s Pairs Championships, Names in by 7 where a draw will take place.

You can pick your own partner or go into the hat. The Pairs will be played over three weeks.
