WELL, round one of the Broken Hill Football League has been completed with the Dogs just getting over the Maggies by 16 points, while the Roos recorded a massive 83 point win over the Robins.
The most pleasing thing over the round for me was watching the South juniors.
They looked sharp and looked like they belong; exciting times ahead for them and the club.
We turn our heads to round two now where the Roos take on the Dogs and the Maggies welcome the Robins.
Central v West
CENTRAL played a combative style last week. Their contested numbers would have been up but they were overpowered by the Dogs in the end.
I’m still a little confused as to why the league doesn’t introduce the six-six-six rule which will open the game up and, I believe, in the same breath increase scoring opportunities.
It seems we pick and choose which AFL rules we want to implement.
Anyway, the powers that be will control that. Back onto the game.
Yes, the Robins were belted last week but the positive was they continued to have a crack.
They were just outworked and outclassed and Centrals were just overrun.
They still lack that outside speed in my opinion, but did a pretty good job overall.
I think the Maggies will get the job done this week but it won’t be through lack of effort by the Robins.
If you watch the Westies you can see what they’re trying to do.
Just gotta keep implementing it and work toward consistency. I think they will be a lot better as the season goes on.
The Maggies have a real solid aggressive approach to their game and if another team comes underprepared they will get caught by them.
Anyway, I’m going Central by 30 points against the Robins.
North v South
LAST time I gave the Roos a clip they made me eat my words.
On the weekend, they looked clean and sharp and more importantly organised.
You will also see the best of the Dogs as the season grows; they look to me as a little underdone but that will improve.
I don’t like tipping against the Dogs but on this occasion I’m going to have to go with the Roos.
To me, both sides are quality but at this stage of the season the Roos look fitter and more organised.
But like I said, as the season grows the Dogs will get to their peak and challenge anyone but for right now, it’s the Roos for me.
The Dogs have shied away from their ground handballs and exiting the stoppages from the front.
A good stat to keep when these two teams play is who wins the ground ball contest.
South are extremely good at winning the ball back; both teams have different qualities about them.
In a thriller, Roos by 10 points.
