Pilots meet for Model Flying Club comp

PILOTS gathered at the Broken Hill Model Flying Club on Saturday for the second round of the Model Aero Sport SA competition challenge.

Thankfully with minimal wind, members were able to compete and perform well in the favourable weather conditions.

Flight instructor Greg Pope trained with student pilot Cohen Smith McInnes, and Ash Smith practiced rolls and loops in his Boomerang Trainer and Night Radian glider.

The club then shared in a barbecue lunch after competition flying, with friends and family joining in to spectate the events.

Later in the day members held their fourth indoor flying event at the basketball station.

Mr Smith said flying indoors was a new and exciting challenge.

“Flying radio-controlled planes indoors is a whole new ball game,” he said.

“Most planes end up taking a beating sooner or later, but are usually fixable and back in the air for the next event.”

The club will continue to meet for indoor flying events every third Saturday of the month.
