Dogs dine on Robbins’ decline

Dale Tonkin

North v West

IN this game, North had the ability to score against the wind in both quarters.

West could only manage one goal into the breeze late in the last quarter.

Looking at the game, North’s skillsets, game sense, and general footy IQ looked a lot prominent than Wests.

I will say though, it appeared to me West did win the ground balls but couldn’t capitalise.

West needed to sit on the outside of North in field play as North kept picking them off.

North, to me, played a very good brand and I can only see them getting better.

Jack Turner was an added bonus to the North team.

To put it simply, North were just too good. Probably a welcome wake up call for the Robins.

I would suggest the lad Trengrove looked promising for the Robins; he would have won his position but I can’t think of too many more Robins that won their spot.

I think in the end, the Dogs won by an impressive 63 points.

Moving forward, the Doggies are in a healthy position whilst the Robins need to go back and do their homework, which I’m sure they will, and get on top of their game. They are more then capable.

Come finals they only need to bring their best footy and then who knows.

West have South this week and North are playing the Maggies, so who knows what’s to come leaning into the pointy end of the season.

North statements are performing once again at a high level. Kels continues to take the game on and make the play whilst Quinton Bevan’s efforts up forward are a pleasure to watch. He repeat leads and applies enormous pressure and Bill Orman would be a great inclusion to the Dogs.

So let’s see what happens next weekend.

South v Central

I OBVIOUSLY wasn’t at this game. By all accounts it was quite heated and competitive which I expected.

South won the game by 37 points.

I’m not sure how many games in a row Central have lost but it’s time to get their skates on and get some wins and momentum going into the finals.

Central, like West, are capable.

Bring back that competitive nature that they have shown. Don’t compromise. The more ruthless Central can be, the better they perform.

South on the other hand are edging closer to that minor premiership; they have had a couple of minor slip ups on the way but have barely put a foot wrong. They continue to look organised and connected with their juniors making the play and holding their positions, whilst the three talls they have are a dangerous proposition. Brown, Henderson, Holmes, hard to stop, include the best first touch player in the comp Nug and Cat Schorn up front. It’s quite a dangerous team.

This year’s flag is basically anyone’s.

Who wants it more? Who is willing to extend themselves and sacrifice?

Time will tell.

Good luck everyone.
