Breastcreen clinic open for free appointments

BREASTSCREEN NSW will provide free breast screening for all women over 40 between Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 15 at the Broken Hill BreastScreen Clinic next month.

The screening can assist in the early detection of breast cancer.

Manager of BreastScreen NSW Greater Western, Deon Adamson, said it’s important for women to regularly have their breasts screened for their health.

“Detecting breast cancer early increases your chance of survival while reducing the likelihood of invasive treatment, such as mastectomy or chemotherapy,” she said.

“Around 90 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history. This is why breast cancer screening is so important for all eligible women.

“Life gets busy and we want women to make their health a priority by attending their recommended two-yearly screening.”

The clinic is located at Broken Hill hospital, and appointments are free, take less than 20 minutes and don’t require a referral.

The clinic will also open on Saturday, August 9.

Women with family history of breast cancer are encouraged to discuss their specific needs with their GP.
