Dog club sleighs dress-up

THE Broken Hill All Breeds Obedience Dog Club is on holiday for the summer, with local pups and their owners celebrating the end of term with a dress-up themed party.

The club has been running for more then 60 years and aims to keep the region’s dogs in line and helping to train the next generation of trial champions.

The last meet up was held on the weekend with a fun day of activities and a dress-up competition to keep the pooches busy.

Due to the heat, the club closes for a break from mid-November to February.

The Broken Hill All Breeds Obedience Dog Club publicity officer Janet Siddall said the party was a great way to celebrate the end of term.

“Instead of formal classes last Sunday morning, we had fun things like dogs doing jumps, going through hoops and weaving,” she said. “Every so often we have what we call a ‘fun night’ so that the members can just enjoy being with their dogs and the dogs can have fun too”.

After a high-stakes competition, the Algate family took home the prize of Best Dressed for their homemade sleigh, pulled by their dog Drax, piloted by Rex Algate and created by mum Megan Algate.
