Businesses, groups give big

BUSINESSES and community groups throughout the Silver City have donated money, gifts, toys and cakes to support families struggling financially over the Christmas season.

Mining company Tronox have for many years been donating $2000 worth of toys for children to Lifeline Broken Hill, however this year it has added an extra $1000 in cash to its usual donation.

“People have been doing it harder than ever,” said senior production co-ordinator Linton Smith.

“So this year, due to the extra hardships like power outages, we’re adding an extra $1000 to our donation.”

Broken Hill Lions Club and Far West Auto donated Christmas cakes to St Vincent de Paul’s Christmas hampers and Southern Cross Care, as they’ve been doing annually for more than 20 years.

The funds for the purchase of the cakes came from their annual car raffle at the Westside Plaza, which will be drawn at the Plaza on Saturday, December 14.

Hampers will be dispersed to those in need on December 20.
